Time Management is a Developed Skill
Simply put, there are specific things that highly productive and successful people do in their daily routines to make the best use out of the time that they have.
I recently spoke with time management expert and author, Kevin Kruse on my Law Practice Doctor podcast, and he gave us some insight into a few of these time management essentials.
When you have finished reading this article, I invite you to have a listen to the episode by clicking on this link and getting all the additional great information that was presented.
Let’s take a quick look at one of the more important suggestions Kevin brought to the table.
Use Your Calendar
According to Kevin, successful people don’t work off their to-do lists. Yes they compile them, but then they immediately schedule the details into their calendars.
Highly successful people take all those things on the to-do list and one-by-one they pick a date, a time and a duration and they transfer it over.
Even if they’re going to check their email for ten or fifteen minutes, that’s on the calendar.
A 15-minute break? A date-night with their spouse? It’s on the calendar.
This one strategy does indeed have the power to transform your productive life and take your game to the next level.
If you aren’t doing this already, I recommend trying it out and sharing your results with the community here.
If you aren’t yet ready for this high-level of time management, you can work with the idea of block scheduling.
This is basically the twin sibling of what Kevin is suggesting.
With block scheduling, you take a specific block of time and designate it for that one specific task.
When the time is over, whether what you wanted to get done is done or not, you move onto the next thing.
I like to maximize out my brain capacity for about 45 minutes and take a 10-minute break every hour.
It’s also important to be protective of those block times, minimize distractions and make sure those around you know not to disturb you.
Remember, highly successful people are rarely overnight successes. They have put in the time day after day, utilizing strategies like the ones discussed here.
There is no need to reinvent the wheel, just the need to focus on employing the measures that have proven to work.
To your success!
Until next time.
