IMPAKT On Your Web Presence

Screen Shot 2015-07-09 at 1.42.12 AMI know, like myself, lawyers tend to be focused on what they do and are not necessarily technologically savvy. So I’m thrilled to have spoken to Lindsey Anderson, the founder and CEO of Web Impakt, which is a successful web development company, and Lindsey’s Web, which is actually a great online resource for small business owners to learn about ranking on search engines, newsletters, analytics, social media, websites, blogging, and more.

I asked Lindsey about some of the website “must haves” she would suggest, to lawyers like me, to bring me up to speed for today’s world of ever changing technology and here are some of the ideas we discussed.

Content and SEO

The number one concept is “content is king”, because content is so important in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) world. As long as your website is functional and looks halfway decent, it’s all about the content that resides on your website.

Why Video Marketing

  • People want to watch a video of you, to get a sense of who you are and what you can do for them, so make it short and focused. Don’t make it too complicated.
  • Adding video to your website increases your SEO; Adding your own YouTube channel helps rankings on YouTube & Google

Social Media Marketing

  • Choosing the Social Media platform that’s best for you is important. Facebook for business has become one of those “must haves” because that is where everyone is.
  • Linked-In or Twitter, are good choices, but don’t be absent as it doesn’t serve you.
  • Content should obviously be law related and targeting your niche market.
  • Think – “Things Your Lawyer Wouldn’t Tell You” or, other ideas that will keep them coming back for more. People want inside info/quick tips & tricks.

Here’s the kicker – Someone may not always need a lawyer, but when they do, hopefully you’re the one that’s top of mind in your niche, because they trust you, because your social media makes them trust you, because you’re telling them things other lawyers have never told them before. So really build that trust relationship. Let them get to know you. And when they need a lawyer, you’re definitely the one they’re going to call.

The Website and Being Mobile Friendly

Websites being mobile friendly became most prevalent on April 21st (2015). Statistics claim 50{cf5d02f31badde63b68d55c0bed56ab5356094abc2057734bc0088249d8536d3} of people these days are looking up information on their mobile device. Google has made it such that if you’re site is not mobile friendly, it will affect your ranking. Lindsey highly recommends responsive web design. Hire out content writing, if it’s not your thing, it will be worth it. There are many resources out there where you can find good, affordable content writing and/or graphics. Some that come to mind are Fiverr (for graphics), oDesk & Elance (for writing)

Analytics

Lindsey has noticed, with new clients, not having analytics installed is a big issue. She says Google Analytics is a free download and allows you to see simple things like how many people are coming to your website, what pages they’re going to, and how they got there. Even if you’re not ready to use the information now, when you are, the historical data will be there for you to utilize.

So if you’re just starting out in terms of planning stages for a new law practice website, but don’t know where to begin, know that there are very inexpensive options out there. You can hit up Lindsey and she’ll get you set up right away. Second, make sure you get on social media. Make sure you sign up for a Facebook page as a business, not as a personal profile, and start writing some trust-based content out there on social media. Make sure you register your business with Google Places. You can google that to find out how to do it. Google will send you a postcard to make sure you are legitimately at that address, and that way you can start ranking on what’s called Google Local Results, which is going to be important for your local clients.

If you need any help or you want to contact Lindsey, you can find her at lindseysweb.com, or you can also email her at lindsey@lindseysweb.com or visit Lindsey’s Web to view all her great resources.
